My husband made me play the maid at his promotion party, and he even showed off his mistress… but everyone was stunned when the big boss bowed to me and called me “Madam President”.

The group’s global CEO, Alexandre Rivas, entered accompanied by several members of the international board. His presence was unexpected; no one anticipated that he would come from New York solely for this celebration.

Laurent stiffened in surprise, then immediately adopted his professional smile.

— Mr. Rivas! What an honor to welcome you.

Everyone stood up. I remained with my back turned, arranging glasses on a table.

I felt footsteps approaching.

« I was looking for someone in particular, » said Rivas.

Laurent seemed disconcerted.

— Someone? Who?

Rivas did not reply. He walked straight towards me.

The entire room fell silent.

I turned around slowly.

Our eyes met, and he smiled with genuine respect.

Then, before the astonished eyes of more than a hundred guests, the group’s managing director bowed slightly and declared in a clear voice:

— Good evening, Madam President. We are happy to see you finally back.

The sound of a cup shattering on the floor was the only sound that followed.

Camille remained frozen. Laurent turned pale.

Murmurs began to spread through the room.

— President?
— What did he say?
— Who is she?

Laurent approached, incredulous.

— There must be some mistake… it’s my wife… well… a housewife…

Rivas looked at him with a mixture of surprise and disapproval.

— Housewife? he repeated. Mr. Dubois, allow me to formally introduce you to the majority owner and president and CEO of Horizon Global Holdings.

The silence became heavy.

Someone dropped a glass. Others discreetly took out their phones.

I placed the tray on a table and calmly removed my headband and apron. Underneath, I wore an elegant black dress that I had concealed beneath the uniform.

The transformation was instantaneous.

I walked towards Laurent.

His face was drawn.

— Eleanor… I… I didn’t know…

« I know, » I replied firmly. « That’s why I endured it for so long. »

I looked at Camille.

— This necklace belongs to my family. I would be grateful if you would return it to me.

Her hands trembled as she removed it from her neck.

Laurent was sweating.

— Honey… we can talk about it at home…

I looked him straight in the eyes.

— No. It stops here.

I took the necklace and continued:

— I gave you my love when you had nothing. I believed in you when no one else did. But you confused progress with superiority. And you confused patience with weakness.

The executives watched in absolute silence.

Rivas intervened:

— Mr. Dubois, your position depends directly on the decisions of the council chaired by Ms. Morel.

Laurent swallowed.

— Eleanor… please…

I interrupted him.

— Don’t worry. I’m not going to fire you.

His face showed a brief moment of relief.

— Because you’re resigning, here and now.

Severe blunt trauma. Repeated blows.” Outside her room, I saw them—her father and his seven sons—smiling like they’d just claimed a prize. The detective muttered, “It’s a family issue. Our hands are tied.” I studied the mark on her skull and answered calmly, “Perfect. Because I’m not law enforcement.” What followed would never see a courtroom.
